Malkangiri: With an aim to empower the members of the LGBTQ community and make them self-dependent, the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) authorities in Malkangiri have appointed five transgenders as security guards.

According to sources, the transgenders were appointed under the Nirmal scheme and will be looking after safety and cleanliness of the Labour room. Before joining duty, all of them went through a training imparted by the district Police.

Speaking about the new job, security guard, Kailash Dora said, "After undergoing a training of 15 days, five of us joined here and we are extremely happy about it. We stay at the hospital for 8-hours every day during which we take care of the patients."
