Chitrakonda: Odisha police busted a racket involving illegal trade of Hanuman coins and arrested three persons in this connection in Chitrakonda Sadar area of Malkangiri district on Saturday.

The accused have been identified as Mohan Trivedi of Odisha, Itham Sethi Venkat Ramana and KrupabharamTrpalli of Andhra Pradesh.

They have been arrested on the charges of defrauding people by selling Hanuman coins and possessing gun and deer skin.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Chitrakonda police led by IIC Surya Prakash Patnaik raided the house of Trivedi at daily market in Chitrakonda Sadar and seized Hanuman coins, deer skins, a double barrel gun, 50 antique copper coins, valuable stones of different colours, Rs 12, 310, a two-wheeler, three mobile phones and ATM cards.

All the three accused have been forwarded to the court on Saturday. Case no-25 has been registered against them at the Chitrakonda police station under Sections 417, 420 and 34 of IPC, Section 25 under Arms Act and Section 51 under the Wildlife Protection Act.

Earlier last month, another illegal deal involving sale of antique Hanuman coins at a whopping Rs 2 crore had been busted in Ganjam district with the arrest of seven persons in this connection.

The racket was busted during a raid at a house owned by one Surya Patra at Shanti Nagar area under Bada Bazar police limits in Berhampur.

During the raid, three copper Hanuman coins, Rs 1.5 lakh cash, two motorcycles, magnet, spirit and other incriminating items had been seized from the possession of the arrested persons.
