Bhubaneswar: Cracking whip on corruption and incompetence, Odisha government on Wednesday sent six officials including two excise department officials on compulsory retirement.

As per a statement by the government, the six officers - Deputy Executive Engineer of Keonjhar Rural Works Division, Ajit Kumar Debata, Assistant Engineer of Cuttack R&B Division Jitendra Kumar Dalai have been shown the door.

Similarly, Assistant Engineer of Mayurbhanj Rural Works Vijay Parida, Assistant Engineer of Bhubaneswar R&B Division Ganeswar Sethi, Deputy Superintendent of Excise in Sambalpur, Jaydeep Patnaik and the Excise Inspector of Sundergarh Riaz Ahmed Baig are the other officials who have been forced to retire from active service.

Both Jitendra and Ajit have two pending vigilance cases each against them including a case of amassing disproportionate assets worth more than Rs 1 Crore against Ajit.

Similarly, Vijay Parida has three vigilance cases against him, while Ganeswar Sethi has six departmental proceedings against him for alleged negligence in duty.

Jaydeep Patnaik has been made to take CRS for his alleged negligence in duty and consuming alcohol during office hours.

"Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has time and again stressed the need for transparent governance. He has been particularly harsh on corrupt and incompetent officials, and this is the result of his action against corruption," read the statement.
