Bhubaneswar: The spurt in Covid-19 cases across Odisha has now forced the Directorate of Prisons and Correctional Services to switch back to its previous Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to prevent the outbreak of virus inside jails across the State.

In a letter, the Directorate Of Prisons and Correctional Services has written to all Jail Superintendents to strictly follow SOP issued by the Home Department which was issued in August 2020.

Here’s details of the SOP:

1. As per SOP of Government in Home Department, anybody found positive in this process, should be sent to the “Dedicated Covid Care Centre/Dedicated Covid Health Centre/Dedicated Covid Hospital” by the concerned remanding agencies like Police, Forest, Excise or Vigilance as the case may be for treatment with the permission of remanding courts.

They will be shifted to the Jails after being recovered in “Dedicated Covid Care Centre/ Dedicated Covid Health Centre/ Dedicated Covid Hospital”.

2. All Covid positive prisoners should be sent to nearest Covid Care Centres and critically ill patients (Covid) to Covid Care Hospitals.

3. Covid positive cases should not be kept inside the Jails.

4. Other instructions in SOP of Government as well as all guidelines issued during 2020 shall be followed.
