Puri Custodial Death: Odisha Govt Transfers Baseli Sahi IIC

Puri: Inspector-in-charge of Baseli Sahi police station in Puri, Jibanananda Jena, was transferred to the district police headquarters in a minor reshuffle effected in the inspectors and sub-inspectors of police ranks in the district.

Jena was replaced by Sanjeeb Kumar Pradhan, the incumbent IIC of Balanga police station. Similarly, Kumbharpada police station IIC Kulamani Sethi has been transferred and posted as the IIC of Baliapanda police station.

Baliapanda IIC Chinmaya Rout has been transferred and posted to Sea Beach police station as its inspector-in-charge. IIC of Sea Beach police station, Bichitrananda Sethy, has been transferred and posted to Kumbharpada police station.

Moreover, sub inspector Samarendra Paikray of Kumbharpada PS has been transferred and posted as office in-charge of Balanga police station.

It can be reminded here that Baseli Sahi IIC was recently in the eye of storm following alleged custodial death of one K Ramesh (33). The issue had triggered a state-wide outrage promoting the State government to transfer the then superintendent of police Akhileswar Singh.

Singh was transferred to police headquarters while Sambalpur SP Kanwar Vishal Singh replaced him as the new SP of Puri.

Similarly, sub-inspector Biplab Kumar Pradhan and two constables – Jagannath Swain and Babuli Behera of Baseli Sahi police station were placed under suspension for gross misconduct and negligence in duty.
