Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to establish teacher clusters in Swabhiman Anchal, the cut-off area in Maoist hotbed of Malkangiri district in a bid to ensure steady imparting of education to students with better facilities for teachers.

State School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash on Sunday informed about the move saying that the government has decided to approve a budgetary allocation of Rs 8 crore for the proposed teacher clusters. The government will set up similar teacher clusters in other remote areas of the state in subsequent phases, he said.

"The teacher clusters will benefit school students in as many as seven panchayats of the area. Accommodation facility for as many as 15 teachers will be undertaken in the first phase of the initiative," said Dash.

The minister further said the clusters have been envisaged keeping in view the difficulties faced by teachers while going to schools in the tribal-dominated region due to poor accessibility. Once the cluster is set up, teachers will not have to cover a long distance to reach their schools.

The foundation stone for the teacher clusters will be laid on December 18, the minister added.
