Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday announced suspension of classes of Standard IX and XI in all schools across the State amid rising cases of Covid-19.

The suspension will be applicable to all schools such as Government, Government Aided and Private and come into effect from tomorrow, Satyabrata Sahu, Principal Secretary of School and Mass Education Department said in a letter.


“In view of the prevailing COVID-19 situation, the teaching of class IX & XI pertaining to all schools i.e. Government, Government Aided and Private schools is suspended with immediate effect until 30.04.2021,” Sahu wrote to all S&ME directors and District Education Officers.

“The students of these two classes residing in Hostels/ Residential Schools are allowed to go back to home immediately. If required, schools may take up online classes,” Sahu said

He, however, said the classes of X and XII students will continue till April 25.

“The classes of class X & XII will continue as usual till 25.04.2021 as notified earlier as the students of these two classes will be appearing Board/ Council Examinations. The COVID appropriate behaviour like use of mask, maintaining social distancing and hand hygiene are to be ensured for the students staying in Hostels,” he added.
