Bhubaneswar: In a major development, the department of handlooms textiles and handicrafts, Government of Odisha, has signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with E-Commerce Platform Flipkart to implement 'Flipkart Samarth Programme' to open national market access for weavers, artisans and craftsmen of the State while empowering them to leverage the benefits of e-commerce model.

The MoU was approved with a view to increasing business and trade inclusion opportunities for weavers and artisans of the State.

Under the MoU, the Flipkart Group will implement its 'Flipkart Samarth Programme' in the State to enable National Market Access for weavers, artisans and craftsmen to showcase the hallmark products of the State by providing a time-bound incubation support, said a release of the I&PR department.

As part of the initiative, Odisha government will work with Flipkart Group for engagement with State-owned affiliated enterprises and undertakings that work with local artisans, weavers and crafts producers in the State to provide market access, training and support.

This initiative will open national market access for the weavers and artisans of the State to a growing Pan-India customer base of over 150 million while empowering them to leverage the benefits of e-commerce model.
