Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Friday asked principals of all government/private Higher Secondary schools in State to sanitise and clean the institution campuses. The major development seems to hint towards the reopening of the higher secondary schools in the near future.

An official order in this connection was issued by the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education that stated, "Resumption of physical mode of learning in all higher secondary schools across the State is hampered due to Covid Pandemic since March 2020. The school campus needs sanitation and cleaning. Further, accessories & amenities like functional drinking water, toilets, classrooms, laboratory and equipments need to be brought to the pre-Covid situation." (SIC)

The department has directed all the principals to comply with the order and send a status report to the department within a week.

The announcement comes just hours after the government allowed reopening of laboratories at higher educational institutions- universities and colleges across the State.

The government had recently allowed reopening of the medical colleges in the State from December 1.

As per an official notification, Odisha government had earlier said that all schools and other educational institutions in the State would remain closed till December 31, 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic situation.
