Bhubaneswar: Food, Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department Secretary, Vir Vikram Yadav on Wednesday wrote letter to all district collectors for starting farmers' registration process to ensure procurement of paddy (kharif crop) for the upcoming Kharif marketing season 2020-21.

Online registration is mandatory for the farmers in their nearest PACS, LAMPCS, WSHG and Pani Panchayats to sell their Kharif and Rabi season's paddy harvest. Farmers will have to give information on their harvest and bank details in this process, the letter says.

Procurement process will start from the first week of November and continue till March 31, 2021 during which farmers can sell their 2019-20 Kharif harvest and 2019 Rabi harvest, it added.

As per the letter, online registration is mandatory for farmers across the whole State which were initiated for the first time from 2014-15. "It is a mandatory process which requires every farmer who is willing to deliver surplus paddy at MSP to government to register with the nearest authorized societies." the notice reads.

Societies digitize the information submitted by farmers regarding their personal/ land/ bank details and upload these data on the website of the department, www.foododisha in, through the web-based farmer registration software application.

As a result, before the start of every procurement season (Kharif /Rabi) each society is ready with a list of farmers along with their marketable surplus to commence procurement operations.

Notably, the yield rate of paddy is fixed every year for Kharif/ Rabi season with approval of government. This helps in making advance planning to manage procurement operations for paddy for each crop season.
