Puri: Odisha government has approved the constitution of a new committee for overseeing the management affairs of Puri Swargadwar.

A notice in this regard was intimated to the district administration by the Housing and Urban Development department in a letter dated October 27.

Named, Swargadwar Seva Samiti, the new panel registered under the Society Registration Act will work to streamline the management of the famous crematorium site in the pilgrim town.

This apart, its main objectives will be to ensure the upkeep of the dignity of the dead bodies brought to the crematorium, facilities, and good services to the relatives, well-wishers of the deceased.

The committee will have a total of 9 members with the district collector of Puri as its chairman. The sub-collector will act as the secretary of the board while Puri SP, OFDC General Manager, and Puri Municipality Executive Officer are the other members of the panel.

Three other members of the committee will be appointed by the district collector having notable contributions in the field of social activism. As per the government order, the three chosen members will have an office tenure of two years.

It may be noteworthy to mention here that the Odisha government has earmarked a fund of Rs 5 crore for the development of Puri Swargadwar.
