Bhubaneswar: Sushila Devi, the first lady of the State and wife of Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal, passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar late last night. She was undergoing treatment at the hospital due to post Covid-19 complications.
"With profound grief and heavy heart, we inform that the First Lady of the State Smt Sushila Devi passed away yesterday night. Let us pray for the departed holy soul. Om Shanti!," tweeted the Governor's office.

Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Sushila Devi has been brought to Raj Bhawan from the hospital so that her relatives, well wishers and others can pay their last respect. Her last rites reportedly will be performed at Swargadwar in Puri later today.
"We received the information about her death at around 11 PM yesterday. Though she had recovered from Covid-19, she was unwell since the last few days due to the post complications of coronavirus infection," said a relative of Sushila Devi who reached Raj Bhawan this morning.
Condolences poured in from various quarters following the demise of the First Lady of Odisha.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief at the passing away of Sushila Devi and described her a very warm and pious person. Patnaik also conveyed his sympathy to the Governor and other members of the bereaved family.
Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan expressed profound grief and sadness at the passing away of Sushila Devi.
"Andhra Pradesh Governor Sri Biswabhusan Harichandan expressed profound grief & sadness at sudden passing away of First Lady of Odisha, Smt. Susheela Devi, wife of Odisha Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal," the AP Governor tweeted and said that she was a warm and kind person and actively participated in several programmes for the welfare of the poor and needy.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha Assembly speaker Surjya Narayan Patro and BJP National Vice President Baijayant Panda also condoled the demise of the First Lady of Odisha.

"Deeply saddened to hear about the sudden demise of our First Lady, Smt Sushila Devi Ji. My deepest condolences to His Excellency, the family, and the nation as a whole. My thoughts and prayers with the near and dear ones. May her soul rest in peace," wrote Odisha Assembly speaker Surjya Narayan Patro on his twitter handle.

Union Minister Pratap Sarangi also expressed shock and grief over the First Lady's death. Koraput MP Saptagiri Ulaka also condoled the death of Sushila Devi.

Earlier on November 2, Ganeshi Lal and his wife Sushila Devi along with four other family members had tested positive for Covid-19. All the six members were admitted to a designated Covid hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment.
