Bhubaneswar: Increasing incidents of snatching in Bhubaneswar have become a concern for the residents. In such an incident, Commissionerate Police arrested a snatcher after he was caught by the locals while trying to snatch a gold chain from a woman in broad daylight in the Capital City on Monday.

According to reports, the woman was standing near a medicine shop near NALCO Square when the miscreant tried to snatch the gold chain from her neck.

However, the scared woman screamed after which some locals present on the spot caught hold of him while he was trying to escape.

“I was purchasing some medicines in the shop when the miscreant tried to snatch away my gold chain. I screamed in fear when I saw him holding my chain. Hearing my scream, locals present here came to my rescue. I am thankful to them,” said the woman.

The locals informed police about the incident but not before tying the robber with a tree. Chandrasekhar police rushed to the spot and arrested the snatcher.

A case has been registered in this connection. The accused is being questioned and further investigation into the incident is underway.

It is worth mentioning that Commissionerate Police had formed special squads in police stations across the Capital City to deal with the menace of chain snatching.

Each squad at the police station/s are headed by one or two officers who are assisted by four constables for the specific task of preventing and detecting chain-snatching crimes.
