Odisha Girl Throws Acid On Youth Over 'Unrequited Love'

Cuttack: In what could be termed as a countertrend, a girl allegedly threw acid on a youth reportedly over a failed relationship with him in Jagatpur area of Cuttack late last night.

Sustaining burn injuries on his face and chest, the youth whose identity hasn’t been disclosed was immediately rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack following the acid attack. He was however discharged from the hospital today after necessary treatment.

The victim from Shikaripur village in Jagatpur area narrated that he and the accused girl were in a relationship in the past and had parted ways long back. Suddenly, the girl called him to meet outside his home last night where, after a minor altercation, the girl allegedly threw acid on him.

Speaking to OTV, the acid attack victim said, “She used to blackmail me to take her out for rides and demanded many other things citing that we had an affair in the past. Last night she called me outside and threw acid on me after a minor altercation.”

The youth has been discharged from SCB after treatment.

Meanwhile, Jagatpur police has arrested the accused girl and her mother.

Briefing the media, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh said, “According to allegations, the youth and the girl had been in a relationship. Later, the youth’s marriage was fixed with another girl following which a dispute occurred between the duo. A probe has been launched into the case and action will be taken on the basis of the probe report.”
