Rourkela: The joy of Bhagyashree Sahu, an Odia engineering girl-turned a Pattachitra artist, knew no bound when Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded her creations in his radio talk 'Mann Ki Baat' on Sunday.
Bhagyashree, a resident of Sector-19 in the Steel City, has mastered in creating Pattachitra on various themes using soft stones. She used her skill during the lockdowns and created splendid arts on unused bottles, fuse electric bulbs and others glass and plastic materials.
"On her way to college, Bhagyashree found these soft stones, she collected and cleaned them.
Later, she painted these stones in Pattachitra style for two hours every day. After painting these stones, she started gifting them to her friends. During the lockdown, she started painting on bottles too. And now, she even conducts workshops on this art form," PM Modi said.
Wishing her all success in her future endeavour, the Prime Minister said, "A few days ago, on the birth anniversary of Subhash Babu, Bhagyashree paid him a unique tribute done on stone. I wish her all the best for her future endeavours."
The PM's great applause left her spell bound. “The moment Modi Ji spoke on me was unbelievable. I can't express my feelings. I would like to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for recognising me and my art," an elated Bhagyashreee told OTV in her first reaction.
She said, “It was only my passion which got the applause from the Prime Minister. After PM's recognition, my family started extending support and insists on setting up a start-up with the arts."
Creating a number of arts on various besha (appearance) of Lord Jagannath, Bhagyashreee has plans to make more paintings on other Hindu deities like Shiva-Parbati and Radha-Krishna.
She said that all her creations are the fall out of the blessings of Lord Jagannath. "I don't have any guru, but I consider Lord Jagannath as my first teacher," she said.
The family members of the young artist also expressed immense satisfaction over her unique art.
"I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing her in national and international level today. I want her skill to reach greater height and also the art and culture of Odisha," said brother of Bhagyashree.
Meanwhile, various noted personalities also extolled Bhagyashree & wished success in her life journey ahead.
