Kalahandi: A girl was burnt to death after a  fire broke out in her house at Khapramal village under the Koksara police limits in the district on Monday.

According to reports, the fire occurred due to some unknown reasons when no other family members of the girl were present in the house. The fire spread quickly engulfed in entire house. The girl was trapped inside the house as the raging inferno blocked all escape routes.

After hearing her screams neighbours rushed to the spot and tried to save the hapless girl, but could not reach out to her. She died of the burn injuries she had suffered.

Later, upon being informed, fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames. The Koksara police has launched a probe into the incident by sending the body for post mortem.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. However, it is suspected that the fire could have been caused due to leakage of LPG from a cylinder in the house.

Earlier last month, as many as four houses and an equal number of bikes had been gutted in a major fire which broke out in Jhadankuli village in Kukudakhandi block of Satakutuni Panchayat in Ganjam district. However, no one was injured in the mishap.

This apart on February 28, a major fire had broken out at the grid substation of Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (OPTCL) near Meramundali in Dhenkanal district. The incident took place after a high voltage cable went off suddenly.
