Balasore: At least five persons including a nine-year-old girl were injured after they were attacked by a wild bear at Mitrapur village in Nilagiri area of Balasore district on Tuesday.

As per reports, the animal entered the residential area and started chasing and attacking the locals while they were out in the open to perform daily chores. While some managed to escape, five persons were attacked by the bear.

The injured have been identified as Lachhman Singh, Sukura Singh, Kishor Singh, Bharati Patra and Jolly Patra (minor).

The locals rushed the injured to the Nilagiri hospital for treatment. However, one seriously injured was later shifted to Balasore District Headquarter Hospital (DHH).

Kishor Singh, an injured local admitted to the Nilagiri hospital said, "When I was out in my courtyard, I heard people screaming. I tried to get into the house, but it was too late. The bear attacked and injured me."

Following the reports, the forest department officials of Nilagiri have reached the spot to ward off the bear into the wild.
