Cuttack: Protesting government's callous attitude towards their long-standing demands for fair price, pension and prestige, farmers under the aegis of Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) took to streets today.

More than 30,000 farmers from across different parts of Cuttack district took out a rally in the city today and protested government's silence on their demands.

Convenor of NNKS, Akshay Kumar who led the agitation gave an ultimatum to the state government and Centre and said that if they don't listen to their demands, then around 3 lakh farmers will cripple the state in coming October. "The farmers' outfit had demanded a provision of Rs 21,600 crore for the security allowance in the state's annual budget. Even as the government had promised to fulfil our demands on March 21, it is yet to do so."

Similarly, NNKS State Coordinator Seshadev Nanda said, "The Naveen-led government is only campaigning and making fake promises, but on the other hand seeds are lying unused in mandis, farmers are unable to sell their produce and are not getting loans."

The NNKS has also submitted a memorandum in this regard to the district collector. Sources said the outfit will launch a mega agitation against the government in coming October and November.
