Cuttack: In a major crackdown on adulteration units, police on Tuesday morning busted a duplicate tea manufacturing unit and seized huge quantities of raw materials at Mukameswar village under Sadar Police Station here in the district.

Acting on a tip-off about the sale of duplicate products, a special team of Cuttack Sadar police conducted a surprise raid and seized huge cache of adulterated tea powder, duplicate labels of many branded tea companies, tea-processing machines and raw materials. One person has been detained in this connection for questioning.

The back to back raids and recovery of large quantity of spurious and duplicate eatables (and other products) reveals that the millennium city has, of late, become an adulteration hub. Recently, fake honey, gangajal, sauce, spices, edible oil, turmeric powder and ghee manufacturing units had been busted in the city.

Earlier last month, a joint team of Commissionerate Police and food inspecting officials of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) had recovered more than one quintal of synthetic paneer from a bus during a raid.

The spurious paneer had been seized by the officials of Chauliaganj Police Station and CMC while it was being transported from Kolkata to the millennium city in the private bus.
