Cuttack: In a major crackdown on adulteration units, Jagatpur police busted a fake cement manufacturing unit in Jagatpur Industrial Estate of the Millenium City on Tuesday.

One person has been detained in this connection for questioning. A truck used for the transportation of the duplicate cements has also been seized.

According to reports, Jagatpur police conducted a surprise raid at the unit and seized large amount of empty packets of several brands and processing machines from the godowns.

Police said that the factory was producing adulterated cement in the name of several different brands.

“We came to know from the preliminary investigation that the fake manufacturing unit has come into operation after the lock down. They were packing the fake cement in the packets of the branded company and selling the products in the market at higher prices,” said Rabindra Meher, Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Jagatpur police station.

Police also suspect that the manufacturer used to mix several raw materials like marble dust, chemical colours and little white cement to prepare the fake products

“They used to send the fake products to the godowns where original product has been stocked and mix them up making the consumers confuse,” said Amarendra Panda, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Cuttack.
