Balasore: Two persons were injured when a pharmacist, allegedly in an inebriated condition, attacked them with sword at Idida village under Singla police limits in the district on Tuesday night.

The accused identified as Subasish Tudu has been appointed as a pharmacist in the Primary Health Centre of the village.

According to reports, Tudu was loitering around in the village in an inebriated condition last night. He was apparently in a bad mood over some issue and was hurling abuses at passersby. As he became further high, he became more abusive and violent. Suddenly he started chasing and attacking people whosoever came on his way with a sword, leaving two of them seriously injured.

The villagers informed the police after attempts to overpower the miscreant failed. After receiving the information Singla police reached the spot and overpowered him. The injured have been shifted to a local hospital for treatment.

The pharmacist was subsequently put under arrest and a case has been registered against him under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), pertaining to assault with sharp weapons and breach of peace. Police also seized the sword and the stick from his possession.

The incident has created a furore among the villagers. They have demanded the immediate transfer of the trouble maker pharmacist away from the village PHC.
