Nuapada: District Labour Officer of Nuapada, Sarat Kumar Panigrahi was caught red-handed by vigilance department officials while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 on Friday.

As per reports, the official was accepting the bribe at his office at Khariar Road to issue labour cards to 200 persons in the village.

The sleuths swung into action after Srinivas Behera, the complainant, informed the district vigilance unit of such gross corruption in the labour department.

Speaking to media, Vigilance DSP, Satyananda Mahananda said, "As per the government norms, the fee for labour card registration is Rs 70. But Panigrahi was charging Rs 200 per person."

"After a complaint by Srinivas Behera, we nabbed him red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. A case was filed with us and the accused will be forwarded to court soon," added Mahananda.
