Bhubaneswar: Close on the heels of Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo’s announcement to abolish the practice of inducting local MLAs and politicians in governing bodies of colleges, Odisha government today dissolved the governing bodies/managing committees of all non-government aided degree colleges.

The announcement came through a notification by the Odisha government.

"Government after careful consideration have been pleased to dissolve the Governing Bodies or Managing Committees of all Non-Government Aided Degree Colleges of Odisha coming under the purview of Higher Education Department with immediate effect except the Autonomous Colleges and the colleges established by Minority Communities," the government notification reads.

Earlier today, resentment had surfaced within the ruling party the proposal, whith Labour minister Sushant Singh questioning Arun Sahoo’s statements saying that there should be a politician in the governing body of all degree colleges.

Arun Sahoo on Thursday, during a programme convened by Odisha Parents Association, had said that no politician or local MLAs for that matter would be allowed to be in the governing bodies of degree colleges.
