Puri: In an unfortunate incident, a devotee breathed his last after falling unconscious inside the Srimandir premises following the darshan of Lord Jagannath in Puri on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Manoharlal Raikuar.

As per reports, Raikuar was immediately rushed to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where doctors declared him dead before admission.

The reason behind the death is yet to be ascertained. However, it is suspected that the devotee might have died of a heart attack.

"Following thorough examination we declared the patient dead. The exact cause of the death will be ascertained after post mortem," said doctor Satyajit Mohanty of the Puri DHH.

According to sources the rituals inside the temple has not been impacted due to the incident.

Earlier in the morning, a special ritual of the deities-Maha Snana Niti (purificatory bath) was conducted at the Srimandir after blood stains were spotted near Bhitara Katha--the last point of entry for devotees inside the temple. Darshan for the devotees resumed following the completion of the ritual.

According to reports, servitors spotted blood stain inside the temple in the morning and informed the temple management immediately following which purification bath of the deities was performed as spotting human blood stains in the holy shrine is considered to be a bad omen.

Srimandir Temple Administration (STA) sources said the morning ritual of the Trinity got delayed because of the special ritual.

Earlier in 2018, general darshan at Srimandir had been restricted for around two hours after a servitor sustained injuries after he accidentally fell down inside the Garbha Gruha (sanctum sanctorum).
