Bhubaneswar: A man who lost Rs 3.17 lakh to online fraudsters has got his money back due to timely action by the cyber cell officials of Commissionerate police.

Basant Chhatar, a resident of Angul had paid Rs 3.17 lakh in 30 transactions to fraudsters who had made fake promise to install mobile tower on his land.

When the installation of tower got delayed, Basant apprehended trouble and informed the cyber cell at the DCP office in Bhubaneswar.

"They had collected money from me through on-line mode on the pretext of installing mobile tower on my land. When I demand the same, they kept on saying that the documents were under process. Later, I called one of my relatives staying in Bhubaneswar, who advised me to move cyber police station under Commissionerate Police. I lodged a complaint accordingly" Chhatar said.

On being informed, police immediately froze the account of the fraudsters and successfully extract Rs 3 lakh. The amount was later credited to the victim’s account.

"He had lost Rs 3.17 lakh in phase wise to the fraudsters. The money was collected from him in the name of installing Jio tower. He informed cyber cell at the DCP office in Bhubaneswar. The officials immediately swung into action by freezing the account and refund Rs 3 lakh to the victim,' said advocate Pragyan Jyoti Boitai, who is the relative of the victim.

Efforts are on to get the pending amount from the looters, police sources said.
