Bhubaneswar: The daily Covid-19 new cases which was plateauing between 6,000 and 6500 for the last five days, today witnessed an exponential jump crossing 8,000-mark.

The new positive cases which stood at 6073 yesterday, have shot up to 8386 in the last 24 hours. With today’s figure, the cumilative caseload has gone up to 42,8515 in the State.

Of the 8386 new case, 4781 cases were from quarantine while 3605 were local contacts.
As many as 4089 patients have recovered during the period pushing total recovery tally to 371200. The active cases stand at 55245 in the State.

Apart from the record spike in new positive case, the State also witnessed a distressing report of 10 fatalities due to the deadly various in last 24 hours. The cumulative death tally in State mounted to 2017.

Puri and Rayagada districts reported maximum three casualties each while Boudh, Ganjam, Khordha, and Sundergarh registered one death case each.

The infection situation has exploded in Khordha with the district reporting 1840 cases in last one day.

Sundergarh remains at the second spot with 933 cases while Cuttack stood at third position at 496 followed by Jharsuguda which reported 433 cases.

Similarly, Nabarangpur witnessed a daily spike of 388 cases and Bolangir saw 358 positive cases. Angul and Sambalpur districts posted 347, 307 cases respectively.

The districts which witnessed below 300 marks in the daily new cases are Mayurbhabhanj (289), Jajpur (270), Puri (259), Bargarh (257), Nuapada (233), Ganjam (209), Balasore (202).

Keonjhar, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi, Nayagarh recorded below 200 mark other remaining districts saw less than 100 daily positive cases. With 21 new cases Dhenkanal remained in the bottom in the row.
