Bhubaneswar: As many as 186 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Odisha in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of positive cases to 332949. While 108 fresh cases are from quarantine, the rest 78 are local transmission cases, according to Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department.

Sundargarh district recorded the highest number of fresh cases at 35, followed by Sambalpur (20) and Angul (18).

Four districts- Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal and Malkangiri- did not register any new case since Thursday.

Taking to Twitter, the Health and Family Welfare department said, "Regret to inform the demise of two COVID positive patients while under treatment in hospitals."

The two fatalities were reported from Khurda and Sundargarh.

Odisha now has 2,166 active cases, while 3,28,832 people have recovered from the disease so far.

As per State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department, the death toll has jumped to 1898 with two more fatalities in the last 24 hours.

Khurda district, of which state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, accounted for 333 COVID-19 deaths followed by Ganjam (248), Sundargarh (170), Cuttack (140) and Puri (117).

Fifty-three coronavirus patients have died in the state due to comorbidities, the official said.

The state has conducted over 73.19 lakh sample tests for COVID-19, including 27,540 on Thursday, and the positivity rate now stands at 4.55 per cent.
