Bhubaneswar: The number of Covid-19 infections continued to rise in Odisha with 1434 more people testing positive for the virus in a span of 24 hours pushing the total cases to 301574. With 15 more fatalities during the period, the death toll climbed to 1425, informed the State Information & Public Relations Department on Sunday.

Of the new cases reported from all the 30 districts, 833 were from quarantine centres and the rest 601 were local transmission.

Khurda district reported the maximum number of fresh cases at 144, followed by Cuttack (141), added the I&PR department.


Of the fresh fatalities, three each were reported from Khordha (2 in Bhubaneswar) and Sambalpur districts, and two each from Bargarh and Bolangir. The five other deaths were recorded in Cuttack, Deogarh, Ganjam, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh districts.

H&FW department has shared the details of the 15 Covid-19 patients who succumbed while undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the past 24 hours:

  1. A 70-year-old male of Baragarh district.
  2. A 34-year-old male of Baragarh district.
  3. A 39-year-old male of Balangir district who was also suffering from Hypertension.
  4. A 45-year-old male of Balangir district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
  5. A 59-year-old male of Bhubaneswar who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
  6. A 62-year-old female of Bhubaneswar who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, CVA & CKD.
  7. A 86-year-old male of Cuttack district.
  8. A 68-year-old male of Deogarh district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
  9. A 62-year-old male of Ganjam district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
  10. A 77-year-old male of Jharsuguda district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
  11. A 65-year-old male of Khurda district who was also suffering from CVA post PTCA & Hypertension.
  12. A 72-year-old male of Sambalpur district.
  13. A 65-year-old male of Sambalpur district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
  14. A 63-year-old male of Sambalpur district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
  15. A 50-year-old male of Sundargarh district.

Khurda has reported the highest number of fatalities so far at 248, followed by Ganjam at 232 and Cuttack at 119.

At least 53 persons infected with COVID-19 patients have died due to pre-existing ailments, said the State Health and Family Welfare Department.

After today’s surge, the active cases in the State rose to 13239 while 301574 positive patients have so far recovered, said the State I&PR Department.

As many as 50991 samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tests to 4939390 in Odisha.

Meanwhile in India, the total coronavirus cases mounted to 85,07,754 with 45,674 infections being reported in a day, while the death toll climbed to 1,26,121 with 559 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.

With this, the COVID-19 caseload in the country went past 85 lakh, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 78,68,968 pushing the national recovery rate to 92.49 per cent.
