Bhubaneswar: Covid-19 infections in Odisha breached the 6000 mark with the State reporting 218 fresh cases on Friday. The total confirmed cases in the State now stand at 6180.

Of the new positive cases detected in the last 24 hours, 198 cases were reported from various quarantine centres where returnees from other states are lodged. The remaining 20 cases reported today are local contacts.

The highest number of 49 cases have emerged from Ganjam district. Jagatsinghpur has reported 29 cases, Gajapati 27, Bhadrak 25 and Khurda 17, Sundargarh 11, Puri 10, Mayurbhanj 9, Balasore 7, Kendrapada 6, Cuttack 5 and Jharsuguda 4 cases, according to information shared by the State Information and Public Relations Department.

Similarly, two cases each were reported from Nuapada, Keonjhar and Sambalpur while one case each have emerged from Nabarangpur, Angul, Kandhamal, Jajpur, Boudh and Koraput. Seven NDRF personnel who returned from West Bengal after cyclone Amphan duty have also tested positive for Coronavirus.

A total of 4773 RT-PCR tests have been conducted in the State in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tests to 244588.

Detection of the new 218 cases means that the State has now 1865 active cases with 4291 recoveries and 17 deaths.
