Bhubaneswar: The coronavirus tally in Odisha has inched closer to 3 lakh-mark with the detection of 1494 new cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the overall Covid-19 infections surged to 298768 on Friday. The death toll mounted to 1393 as 15 more patients succumbed to the disease during the period, as per the data of the State Health Department.

Of the fresh cases, 867 are from quarantine while 627 were linked to local transmission. Khordha district registered the highest number of 153 cases followed by Cuttack (112) and Balasore (102).

The State now has 13789 active cases while 283533 positive patients have recovered so far, added the State I&PR Department.

Khordha (including 2 in Bhubaneswar) and Sambalpur recorded three new deaths, while two each succumbed to the infection in Bargarh and Mayurbhanj. One each death was registered in Cuttack, Malkangiri, Bolangir, Puri, and Balasore districts.

The details of the 15 Covid-19 patients who succumbed while undergoing treatment at various hospitals include:

  • A 73-year-old male of Cuttack district who was also suffering from COPD.
  • A 70-year-old male of Bhubaneswar.
  • A 54-year-old female of Bhubaneswar.
  • A 38-year-old male of Khurdha district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
  • A 48-year-old male of Malkangiri district who was also suffering from Hypertension, CKD & Obstructive Uropathy.
  • A 65-year-old male of Balangir district.
  • A 72-year-old male of Puri district.
  • A 51-year-old male of Balasore district who was also suffering from CKD & Epilepsy.
  • A 55-year-old male of Mayurbhanj district.
  • A 56-year-old male of Mayurbhanj district.
  • A 65-year-old female of Sambalpur district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
  • A 61-year-old male of Sambalpur district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
  • A 46-year-old male of Sambalpur district who was also suffering from Hypertension.
  • A 67-year-old male of Bargarh district.
  • A 72-year-old male of Bargarh district.

As many as 51098 samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tests to 4838124 in Odisha.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 count in India mounted to 84,11,724 with 47,638 new infections in a day while the death toll climbed to 1,24,985 with 670 new fatalities, according to Union Health Ministry data updated Friday morning.
