Jagatsinghpur: The Vigilance sleuths have arrested a sub-inspector of Jagatsinghpur Sadar Police Station on bribery charges.

According to reports, the vigilance team caught Biswajit Gadnayak red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from Pritam Mohanty.

Biswajit had demanded bribe from Pritam for a mutual settlement of a case. However, Pritam informed the vigilance sleuths about the bribe, following which a trap was laid and he was arrested while receiving the amount at Kandarpur.

The bribe money was also recovered from the possession of the accused in presence of witnesses. Both hands wash as well as the money purse wash of the accused gave positive chemical reaction confirming acceptance of bribe, the Vigilance sources said.

Later the anti-corruption squad arrested Gadnayak and launched an investigation into the case. A case under PC (amendment) Act has been registered in this connection.

In another similar incident, Revenue Inspector (RI) of Siko village under Begunia Tehsil in Khordha district was arrested on Tuesday for accepting a bribe of Rs 1,300.

According to reports, the RI identified as Manoj Kumar Nayak had demanded the bribe from one Trinath Chhuala Singh of Godikilo village for giving a mutation report of a piece of land.

Accordingly a trap was laid by the vigilance squad and Nayak was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from Singh.

The anti-corruption squad also arrested the peon of the office in this connection. He has been identified as Braja Kishore Samantray.
