Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) on Thursday organised a unique ‘Flag Rally to commemorate anniversary of the historic Quit India Movement.

Hundreds of activists of the party took out a rally led by party president Niranjan Patnaik and other senior leaders in Jadupur area of Bhubaneswar and installed flags at nearby residences.

Speaking on the occasion, OPCC chief Niranjan Patnaik said "Quit India Movement is a memorable day for every Indian. Due to a clarion call by our then Congress leaders against the British Raj in 1942, we were able to gain freedom in 1947."

“Earlier we fought against the British and now when a similar situation has arrived where the people who are ruling our country do not believe in secularism and are trying to dislodge the harmony & progress of our nation, we have to unite and fight against them,” added Patnaik.

Patnaik further took to twitter and wrote, "Paid my tributes to our motherland and freedom fighters on the anniversary of the launch of the #QuitIndiaMovement. The Congress always has and always will fight for defending the rights and freedom of our citizens. Jai Hind!”
