New Delhi: After the makeover of top brass in Odisha Congress, the state unit of the party today effected a major change at the grassroots level by appointing 22 new district presidents ahead of the 2019 elections following approval from national party president Rahul Gandhi.

Of 33 party organisation districts, chiefs of 11 districts retain their posts. However, names of the other district chiefs were announced after marathon meetings at Rahul Gandhi's residence at Tughlaq Lane in New Delhi.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) also appointed working president for some districts along with DCCs(District Congress Committees).

"The meeting was held on how Odisha Congress will be strengthened in the coming days. Several issues in the State were also discussed,” stated PCC president, Niranjan Patnaik.

Jitendra Singh, Congress Odisha in-charge said, "In Odisha, more working presidents have been appointed. We have given a platform to young leaders as well to work."

Working president Chiranjibi Biswal said that along with experienced and senior leaders, youths have been taken along in the new team of DCCs.

The Congress has planned to make the Mahanadi water dispute a major plank in ensuing polls. Moreover, to win over voters and encourage party workers, Congress President Rahul Gandhi will visit Odisha soon.
