Cuttack: A private company allegedly defrauded people to tune of crores of rupees on the pretext of making Mobile phone and DTH TV recharge in the city.

The company identified as ‘Sangvi Enterprises’ had opened its office at 42-Mouza in 2020 in the district and engaged agents to collect money from the customers with lucrative offers.

The firm had offered unlimited calls with 2 GB data daily on recharge of Rs 999 for Reliance JIO and BSNL customers. Similarly, it had also floated offers with a DTH recharge pack of Rs 1499 which would give one year benefit.

The company had employed agents on contract basis and assured them of commission in every transaction.

After collecting money for recharge from around 2 lakh customers, the company reportedly closed down services only after two-three months of services, some agents of the firm alleged while lodging a complaint with Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Cuttack in connection with the case.

The agents have also alleged that the company was also running similar business in Kolkata.

"I made recharge of around 3500 customers which costs around Rs 56 lakh. The company had promised us to give Rs 50 commission on recharge of Rs 999. Later, it set targets for us and when we started achieving, it siphoned off the money. When we demanded our commission, the company owner threatened us," alleged Subrat Das, an agent of the company.

Jayant Swain, a customer said “The company assured us to give us 12 months benefit on a recharge of Rs 999. Initially, we got the benefits for two-three months. Now, we learnt that the company owner is absconding by defrauding customers of lakhs of rupees.”
