Bhubaneswar: As expected, the Odisha government on Thursday decided to postpone all the upcoming board examinations including Class 10 (Matriculation) and Plus II in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases in the State.

“In view of the Covid-19 situation and safety of students in mind, the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced to postpone the upcoming the matriculation and Plus II examinations in the state,” said an official release.

As per the official announcement, the Class 10 (Matriculation) examination which was earlier scheduled to start from May 3 has been postponed. A final decision to hold the exam will be taken after a review of the Covid-19 situation .

Similarly, the Plus II exam scheduled to be held on May 18 has also been postponed.

“The State government and Council For Higher Secondary Education department will conduct a review of the situation in the first week of June and on the conduct of the exam. The students will get adequate time to appear in the examination,” the statement added.

School and Mass Education Minister Samir Dash said that the decision to defer the board exams has been taken in view of the Covid-19 situation in the State.

As per the announcement, all the students of Class IX and IX classes will be promoted to Class X and XII, respectively without conduct of any examination, Dash added.
