Bhubaneswar: The Leader of Opposition Pradipta Naik on Tuesday urged the State government to relax the age limit for aspirants of the Odisha Civil Services Examination (OCS) 2020.

In a letter, Naik has requested Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to relax the age limit and allow the candidates, who had appeared the OCS Examinations 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2017, to appear the OCS Exam 2020.

Naik has also sought for an extension of the last date till March 31, 2021 so that the candidates can get time to apply for the upcoming examination.

In his letter, Naik wrote that Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC), Cuttack should conduct the OCS Examination every year keeping in view the vacancies.

Between 2000 and 2015, OPSC conducted the Odisha Civil Services Examination only thrice. Since the examination was not conducted regularly, some of the aspirants could not qualify.

The government had given relaxation in upper age limit to the candidates who could not qualify in OCS 2015 to appear in OCS 2016, the letter read.

In the letter, Naik further said, “Later the government allowed relaxation of age to appear OCS 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 for which they got five chances to appear the OCS examination after expiry of their age limit.”

The GA and PG department allowed the unsuccessful candidates of the OCS Examination 2018-19 to appear the OCS Examination, 2020.

“The concerned department has not changed to the rule for all candidates those who appeared the OCS Examination 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Many aspirants who appeared OCS Examination, 2011 and could qualify are eager to appear the coming OCS Examination but crossed the upper limit,” Naik’s letter read.
