Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to discontinue the 'Career and Counseling Cells' established in all the state-run colleges.

The cells were set up in as many as 52 government colleges across the State.

"Now after review Government in the Department of Higher Education have been pleased to discontinue the functioning of Career and Counseling Cells as it has failed in attaining its objectives," read an official letter of the State Higher Education department.

The department has also urged the colleges to refund the unspent amount under the head of 'Career and Counselling' along with the interest accrued on the unspent amount till date latest by February 28, 2021.

The Career Counselling Cells were set up on the college campus to bridge the employability gap and establish link with the job market to facilitate placements for the students.

The State government had reportedly sanctioned Rs 3 lakh to each college to set up the cells.
