Malkangiri: A BSF jawan sustained critical injuries after a landmine planted by Maoists exploded in a forest at Gogapadar village under Mathili police limits in the district on Sunday.

The jawan identified as Dharmendra Sahoo, who belongs to 160-BSF Battalion, was engaged in the combing operations. The explosion took place while he was returning to the camp after conducting operation in the forest.

According to reports, left leg of the jawan has been damaged in the blast while right leg sustained critical injuries. He has been admitted to a local hospital.

The landmine was planted by the left wing extremists, sources said.

The combing operation has been further intensified following the explosion, sources added.
