Bhubaneswar: After making major announcement on the reopening of schools and dates of exams, Odisha government on Sunday said the students sitting for the BSE class 10 board exams this year will have to appear a total of 80 marks in each paper.

The papers will comprise of 50 marks of OMR objective questions while 30 marks will be for subjective questions, State School and Mass Education Minister Sameer Dash informed reporters. The evaluation of papers will, however, be done for 100 marks. As per the decision, evaluation of the rest 20 marks will be carried out on the percentage secured by the candidate from the given 80 marks.

“Generally 50 days are required for evaluation and publication of the result. But gradually we will take stock of the situation. Now our priority is on opening of schools and start of the academic session," Dash said.

Odisha government on Saturday announced that schools for Class 10 and Class 12 students will reopen on January 8. The School and Mass Education Department in its circular mentioned that courses of the class 10 students will be completed by April 26 while for Plus II students, syllabus will be covered by April 28.

Examinations for Class 10 will begin on May 3 and conclude on May 15 while Plus II students will appear for the board exams between May 15 and June 11.

“Health of the students is of utmost importance for us. Taking this into account, examinations will be conducted accordingly. The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be followed strictly for ensuring safety of students in view of the Covid-19 pandemic situation. A total of 100 days classroom teaching will be held for class 10 and 12 students which means the students will also have to attend classes every Saturday and Sunday,” said Dash.
