Jagatsinghpur: Intensifying the on-going drive against drug syndicates and street peddling of narcotics, an Excise department flying squad and police on Friday seized 47 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 4.70 lakh during a joint raid at Alipingala area under Jagatsinghpur Sadar police limits in the district on Friday.

Two peddlers have been arrested in this connection. They were identified as Dibyaranjan Sethi and Deepak Kumar Rout.

According to reports, acting on a tip-off the joint team conducted a raid and intercepted both the peddlers from different places. Following a search, police recovered 27 gm of brown sugar from Rout’s possession at Kusida and 20 gm of the contraband from Sethi’s possession at Alipingala.

Further investigation into the seizures is underway.

“The investigation is currently underway to track down the syndicate and its network operating in Jagatsinghpur,” Said Pratap Kumar Das, an Excise department official who was part of the raiding team.

Earlier on December 5, the Excise department had seized brown sugar worth Rs 1.2 lakh at Hatatota in Talcher and arrested one person in that connection.

Similarly on November 22, 100 grams of the contraband worth Rs 10 lakh had been seized by the police following a raid at Arad Bazar area in Balasore.
