Bhubaneswar: Bringing laurels for the State, Rohit Ranjan Nayak from Odisha's Bhadrak district has secured the first position for admission into the 145th course at National Defence Services (NDA) and 107th course at Indian Naval Academy or NA.

As many as 533 candidates have been shortlisted based on the written exam and interview rounds, the results of which were declared by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) last Saturday.

Ronit hails from Bachada village in Jagannathpur area of Bhadrak district. He was preparing for the exam at the Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (AFPI) at Kolhapur in Maharashtra.

"I dreamt of joining Navy since I was in school and wanted to become a fighter pilot. Besides, my father is a Navy personnel and I wanted to continue the legacy," said Ronit.

His father Rashmi Ranjan Nayak is serving as a Master Chief Petty Officer at INS Hansa in Goa.
While giving credits of his success to his parents and teachers at the AFPI, Ronit said, "I never expected that I would secure the first position but I worked day and night to clear the written examination. After clearing the written exam, I focused on cracking the interviews and got selected the NDA," he added.

"Boys from Odisha have great spirit and talent and their parents needs to support them so that Odia aspirants like me can crack the NDA exam. I wish to see more candidates from Odisha clear the tough exam and make our State proud," said the NDA topper in his message to the aspirants from the State.

UPSC had conducted the NDA, NA (I) 2020 written exam on 6 September, 2020. The subsequent interviews were held by the Services Selection Board (SSB), of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of National Defence Academy for the 145th Course and Naval Academy for the 107th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC).
