Cuttack: Three armed miscreants on a black Pulsar motorcycle attacked a couple and looted gold ornaments worth lakhs of rupees from them near a football field at Sector-10 in CDA area of Cuttack on Wednesday morning. The incident has raised serious questions over public safety and the overall law and order situation in the Millennium city.

The man has suffered serious injuries after he was assaulted with swords and daggers by the miscreants. A complaint in this connection has been lodged by the victim woman at the Markat Nagar Phase-II Police Station which has started an investigation.

The couple, identified as Hare Krushna Parida and Prajnan Saraswati are residents of CDA area here. Hare Krushna has sustained three deep cuts on hand and thigh after he was attacked with swords and daggers. He has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

As per reports, the couple was returning home after morning walk at around 7.30 am when the three miscreants, riding a black Pulsar, attacked Hare Krushna from behind with sharp weapons from the moving bike. They then snatched away the gold chain from the victim’s neck.

In a bid to save life, the couple started running. However, the miscreants managed to catch hold of Prajnan and threatened her with dire consequences by shoving sharp weapons. A frightened Prajnan handed them over her gold chain, locket and earrings. In the meantime, when her husband tried to save her, the attackers allegedly assaulted him again on his thigh with the sharp weapons.

“When my husband tried to save me, they attacked him with sharp weapons. He has suffered critical injuries on his hand and thigh. The attackers were not wearing masks and took away the jewellery after injuring my husband seriously,” said Prajnan.

A passerby who witnessed the attack rushed to help the couple. However, the assailants fled the spot immediately.

Meanwhile, Police have launched an investigation into the incident following the complaint by the victim woman while her husband continues to struggle for life.
