Balasore: Good news for the denizens of the State. Mihir Kumar Panda, an engineer from Bahanaga area of the district, has been selected by the National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) to receive the coveted National Award.

He will be conferred the award for his outstanding effort in the popularisation of science and technology among children.

The award includes a citation, memento and cash award of Rs 2 lakh  which will be presented to him by the Central government on the occasion of the National Science Day (February 28) through virtual mode.

“I am really excited after the announcement. The award will inspire me to work even harder,” said an elated Panda.

The prestigious award has added another feather to Panda’s cap. Earlier, he had bagged several national and international honours for his innovative projects, mainly for children. Panda has made those innovations in an effort to take science to the common man and children.

Panda had also received the Indian Science Congress Association award in 2019 for his dedication towards science for over 33 years. Among his several innovations, low cost housing technology and earthquake resistance building have received international acclaim.

“I have been pursuing my passion out of my own resources. I dream to carry my research to a new height once I have adequate funds,” said a resolute Panda.

The people of Balasore have hailed Panda’s recognition.

“He is an asset for the State. The award will encourage him to further popularise science among children,” said a villager.
