Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly on Friday cleared the Odisha Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission & Fixation of Fee) Amendment Bill, 2021.

A retired judge of Orissa HC will be nominated to BPUT Fee Structure Committee along with Secretary, Skill Development & Technical Education Dept.

As per reports, the bill was brought with a view to provide regulation in admission, fixation of fees, prohibition of capitation fee, reservation in admission and for other measures to ensure equity and excellence in professional educational institutions and for other connected matters.

The bill further stated that the Fee Structure Committee (FSC) constituted as per the provisions of the OPEI Act, 2007 recommends fee structure of all the technical / professional institutions in the State which becomes enforceable after Government approval.

Section 6 (1) (a) of the Act provides that the Vice Chancellor, BPUT shall be the chairperson of the FSC. However, as BPUT is the affiliating University which enforces the Fee Structure of technical or professional institutions, it may not be proper for its Vice Chancellor to function as the Chairperson of the FSC. As such, it is proposed to appoint a Retired Judge of Orissa High Court in place of Vice Chancellor, BPUT.
