  • Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly on Thursday was adjourned sine dine ahead of its schedule. Speaker SN Patro adjourned the winter session of the Assembly which was scheduled to conclude on December 19.

Prior to the adjournment, CV Raman Global University Bill was passed in the House today.

The current session of the Assembly witnessed ruckus as well as fruitful discussions over several issues. The opposition parties tried to corner the ruling dispensation over several issues including farmers’ protest over token system in paddy procurement, lady PEO Smitarani Biswal’s death, rape and suicide of a girl in Jagatsinghpur and land grab allegations against BJD MLA Pradeep Maharathy.

Leader of the opposition, Pradipta Naik, on the other hand, stated that two of their party MLAs wanted to question why the Assembly was being adjourned sine die. However, we staged a walkout after our members were not allowed to speak in the House by Speaker.

“The government did not have any business and was not keen to take up the issues raised by the opposition. As the ruling party has majority in the House, they adjourned the Assembly by bringing and passing a motion,” said Congress MLA Narasingha Mishra.

Responding to the allegations of the Opposition, Information and Public Relations Department Minister Raghunandan Das said, “The allegations of opposition parties are not based on facts. The Assembly functioned smoothly and was quite fruitful. As there was no business before the House, it was adjourned as per the existing provisions,” said Das.
