Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health Department on Friday drew attention of the Centre to augment supply of vaccines to the State to meet daily target of 2 lakh doses.

Health department ACS PK Mohapatra requested the Union government to supply at least 15 days vaccine requirement in advance to the State for uninterrupted vaccination drive.

The State government has clarified that it is planning to vaccinate at least 2 lakh citizens daily while keeping in view the heat-wave conditions that is likely to worsen over the coming months.

"Presently we are unable to plan vaccination sessions for even 15 days in advance due to insufficient and erratic vaccine supply to the State. It has been seen that other States are achieving up to 3 lakh vaccinations daily due to adequate supply," Mohapatra stated in the letter while highlighting that there should not be any discrimination between States in the supply of vaccines.

It may be noted that all citizens aged 45 years and above will be vaccinated from April 1, 2021. The State government has aimed to vaccinate nearly one crore people of the State during the phase.
