Puri: Continuing action against instances of indiscipline in the force, the Superintendent of Police (SP), Puri, Kanwar Vishal Singh on Wednesday suspended an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) for alleged dereliction of duty in the district.

The suspended ASI identified Laxman Saran is attached to the Talabania Police Station and was deployed at Gridco Chhak for duty.

As per reports, on Tuesday Singh had visited Gridco Chhak during patrolling. Saran was supposed to be on duty in the area. However, when Singh visited the place the ASI was not found anywhere.

Singh reportedly waited for a couple of hours for Saran to show up. But when the on-duty policeman did not return, the SP ordered an inquiry following which he issued his suspension order.

Earlier on January 17, the Puri SP had initiated disciplinary action against two police personnel accused of bribery and negligence in their duty.

While Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Krushnaprasad Police Station, Ishwar Chandra Gumansingh was suspended and later arrested on charges of taking a bribe of Rs 7,000 from a food vendor, a Woman Police Sub-Inspector (WPSI) was suspended for not disclosing about cash seizure in a crackdown on a gambling den.
