Bhubaneswar: An Art teacher in Cuttack district found himself in a soup after two women walked into a police station on Friday morning, claiming he had wedded them separately though he was previously married. And despite having three wives, the man was living with a fourth woman, they alleged.

Following the complaints, the police have detained Krushna Chandra Naik, who teaches Art in a school at Salepur in the district and his questioning is on.

Incidentally, Krushna allegedly wedded two of his four wives last year when the nation-wide Covid-19 induced lockdown was in force, says reports quoting the complaints.

Krushna’s deeds came to light after his first and third wife lodged complaints with the Mahila police station in the district. A posse of women police personnel took Krushna to the policve station afterwards for questioning.

As per the complaints, Krushna had first tied the nuptial knot with a woman from Rausapatna area in 2001. Later, he married another woman in 2008.

Again during the lockdown Krushna married two more women. In fact, he was with his fourth wife when the police went to pick him up today, sources said.

“I married Krushna in 2016 and lived with him for two- three years. He would visit home occasionally. Later in March 2020 I informed my family about his strange behaviour when I came across his photo with another woman in his mobile phone,” said one of Krushna’s wives.

Following the discovery and her family’s advice, she had then lodged a complaint at the Sadar Police station against Krushna. “We want stern action against the accused for playing with our lives,” she added.

Another victim of Krushna’s alleged philandry said, “I had married him in 2001 at a temple and it was an arranged one. After marriage, he used to demand money from my family on the pretext of pursuing his studies and other needs.”

The victim alleged that her husband started living separately on the pretext of pursing higher education. “He never looked after me. In 2004, I finally lodged a complaint with the police after failing to know his whereabouts,” she said.

She claimed after she learnt that Krushna had cheated three more women, she approached the Mahila police station with a complaint last month.

“I got my daughter married to the teacher in 2001. He started torturing her for dowry. We had registered a case against him at Purighat and Mahila Police stations. Later, we withdraw the case after his family members assured to look after my daughter,” claimed one of the victim’s father adding that recently they came to know that his son-in-law had married three more girls.

Officials from the Mahila Police Station were unavailable for comments as Krushna’s questioning is still on.
