Bhubaneswar: A day after the Mahila Police arrested Major Soumya Ranjan Pati, a resident of Nayapalli area here, on charges of mentally and physically harassing his wife for dowry, the latter filed a counter-case against his wife holding her responsible for the dispute.

In her complaint with the Mahila Police, Pati’s wife had alleged that she was subjected to torture over dowry and also levelled murder attempt charges. However, Pati has claimed that she was in an extra-marital affair.

Subhasish Mishra, Major’s lawyer said “He (Pati) came across some evidence in his wife’s laptop which hinted that she was in an extra-marital affair, and subsequently she had apologised for the mistake. She has mentioned in her complaint that she was tortured for dowry, which is a completely false and baseless allegation. The Army Major has also filed an FIR on the same date. He informed that his wife has called him to a restaurant for a settlement. I told him not to go but because he was frequently called, he had to. That is when he was arrested. When the incident has occurred in Delhi, even medical reports are from Delhi, how can the Court here allow police to register Sec 307 against the Major?” Mishra has rubbished all the allegations levelled by the Major’s wife.

As per reports, both of them had tied the nuptial knot in 2013. While the Major was posted in Faridabad of Haryana, his wife worked in Delhi. When Pati found that his wife was allegedly in an extra-marital affair, he decided to part ways legally. However, a few months back Pati’s wife came back to his house to live with his family and Pati had also lodged a complaint after a dispute erupted.

The Major is currently lodged in Army custody as pronounced by Bhubaneswar SDJM court. His wife is yet to respond to the complaint filed against her with regard to the alleged extra-marital affair.
