Bhadrak: It seems Bhadrak is fast turning into a big manufacturing hub of fake tobacco products as in another major crackdown, Bhadrak police busted one more duplicate chewing tobacco (Zarda) manufacturing unit at Chandakamahala area under Puruna Bazaar police limit in the district on late Friday night.

According to reports, huge quantity of duplicate tobacco products of reputed brands, different chemicals and packing machines were seized during the raid.

Senior police officials informed that the raid was conducted based on an intelligence input. However, the accused managed to escape from the spot.

Earlier, police had repeatedly busted several illegal tobacco manufacturing units in Bhadrak district.

On October 25, a huge cache of spurious tobacco products had been seized by Bhadrak police following a raid at Mathasahi area.

The crackdown had come a day after a police team and some journalists were attacked by locals during a raid on a fake tobacco manufacturing unit at Holasahi.

In another similar incident, Puruna Bazaar Police had ruined a fake chewing tobacco (Zarda) manufacturing factory at PathanMohalla area on October 6. Fake tobacco products worth Rs 2 lakh was seized during the crackdown.

A team of Puruna Bazar police had raided two illegal tobacco manufacturing units at Chandan Nagar and Sarkar Nagar and seized large quantities of raw materials used to prepare spurious zarda in August 2018.
